He Remembers

lawitness:

Our Editor Rachel shares an intimate story about love from the Father of the bride on her wedding day.

Have you ever experienced an overwhelming sense of familiarity with something that shouldn’t be familiar at all? Some people call it a déjà vu while others say it could be a distant dream. However, I think it could sometimes be a vision that God has placed in our hearts.

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions” – Joel 2:28

A few months ago, I had a wedding ceremony in Malaysia. Most brides would be exhilarated and beaming with joy. They would agree to many things the wedding planners and vendors propose because it would be ‘once in a lifetime’. However, this wedding was held after our wedding ceremony in California. I felt that we have already been there and done that not long ago with this ceremony being the ‘second in our lifetime’.

The Call to Europe

lawitness:

Have you ever asked God for a loud and clear confirmation for your career? Our foreign correspondent Alex shares an amazing story which comes all the way from Europe.

How do you hear from God? For the longest time I was so frustrated because I always heard people around me “getting downloads” while I was apparently deaf.

Everything changed about a year ago. I was really seeking God’s direction and guidance, I was faced with several big decisions, one of which being a big career move – leaving LA and transferring to Europe. This made me uneasy and I was absolutely starving for God’s direction. I went back to what I knew and that was the Truth from the Bible. Jesus says,

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks the door will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10).

And boy did I start knocking.

Encouragement for Final Weeks

We all are on this journey of Life and we all have our respective, colorful, rich and even checkered pasts, but at this moment, where the story picks up… We have accumulated a mass of knowledge, experience, wealth, and authority and now the question is posed, what is required of us?

What do we do when we receive the house, car, job, spouse, etc., we have been looking for? What do we do when the tables have turned and we now have the power in our careers that we have been looking for?

The simple answer is to do just what we’ve been doing but just do it a bit more..If that sounds too simple or too complex, read the following scripture where it picks up round about Luke 12:48 “…Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”

If we were in our word and prayed up before we got that promotion, continue to do so and do it more. If we were treating people with respect until someone who treated us with respect came along, continue doing so and do it more.

We didn’t make all of these strides forward so we can take two steps back. Continue to trust and God and keeping on doing the right thing because now, to maintain is to do what is required but to excel is to do more than what is required.

Be Encouraged

God can do tremendous things in our lives, if we are willing to hold onto Him and let him work through us. It’s when we put aside our selfishness of seeking only after our personal desires that He reveals to us His awesome plan.

When I was 23, I felt like I was on top of the world. I had just…

“We look back on history and what do we see? Empires rising and falling, revolutions and counter-revolutions, wealth accumulating and wealth dispersed, one nation dominant and then another. Shakespeare speaks of ‘the rise and fall of great ones that ebb and flow with the moon. In one lifetime I have seen my own fellow countrymen ruling over a quarter of the world, the great majority of them convinced, in the words of what is still a favorite song, that, ‘God who’s made the mighty would make them mightier yet.’ I’ve heard a crazed, cracked Austrian proclaim to the world the establishment of a German Reich that would last a thousand years; an Italian clown announce that he would restart the calendar to begin his own assumption of power. I’ve heard a murderous Georgian brigand in the Kremlin acclaimed by the intellectual elite of the world as a wiser than Solomon, more enlightened than Ashoka, more humane than Marcus Aurelius. I’ve seen America wealthier and in terms of weaponry, more powerful than the rest of the world put together, so that Americans, had they so wished, could have outdone an Alexander or a Julius Caesar in the range and scale of their conquests. All in one little lifetime. All gone with the wind. England part of a tiny island off the coast of Europe, threatened with dismemberment and even bankruptcy. Hitler and Mussolini dead, remembered only in infamy. Stalin a forbidden name in the regime he helped found and dominate for some three decades. America haunted by fears of running out of those precious fluids that keep her motorways roaring, and the smog settling, with troubled memories of a disastrous campaign in Vietnam, and the victories of the Don Quixotes of the media as they charged the windmills of Watergate.
All in one lifetime, all gone. Gone with the wind. Behind the debris of these self-styled, sullen supermen and imperial diplomatists, there stands the gigantic figure of one person, because of whom, by whom, in whom, and through whom alone mankind might still have hope. The person of Jesus Christ.”

Eternal Love: Beyond “Happily Ever After”

lawitness:

Have you ever wondered what love looks like outside of fairy tales and romantic comedies? Our Voice Sherea shares with us what it means to love someone through the challenges of real life.

This November, my husband Brian and I will celebrate our twenty-first wedding anniversary. However, in 1997, we separated for about eight months. That was by far the worst thing – and also the best thing – that ever happened to our marriage.
